Opal Music is a desktop player for your Apple Music subscription. It is built to know as little about you as possible.
Your Apple account
You sign in with Apple's own native account system, inside the app. Your Apple ID and password go to Apple, never to us. Apple returns tokens that stay in memory on your computer and are used to talk to Apple Music.
Your library and listening
Your library, playlists and listening history are fetched from Apple and stored only on your computer. We don't receive or keep them.
What reaches our servers
Every few minutes while it runs, Opal asks our server two things: is there a newer version, and is your subscription active. To answer the second, it sends your Apple account's numeric identifier (DSID) and your current Apple Music session token. We ask Apple whether that session is valid, store only a one-way hash of the token for up to an hour, and never use it for anything else.
We keep your DSID with your subscription status, the Stripe customer and subscription IDs, and whether you have used your free trial.
Payments
Checkout and billing are handled by Stripe. Stripe receives your email address, payment details and billing address; we never see your card.
